Let me explain all that in this post.
1. Torrent: Torrent is a small file of size less than 500kb with extension '.torrent' which contains the information about the file you want to download. The torrent is not the file itself you want to download. It gives the information to the BitTorrent clients like utorrent, Vuze or BitComet. There are others too.
2. Tracker: Trackers are the URL's which keep the information about the peers.
3. Seeders: Seeders are the people who have got the full file you want t download. They are now uploading the files. The more the seeders, the better the speed.
4. Leechers: Leechers are the people who are downloading the file and uploading bits by bits.
NOTE: Bit Torrent is a highly data intensive application. For those who do not have a unlimited connection should stay away from it. In my first month of net I downloaded about 50 GB.
You should seed when you are done with leeching
5. Port: You need a specific port address which would allow the client to connect with other Peers.
These were the basic things that a new downloader needed to understand. .
Now lets start with downloading.
1. Download and Install a Client like Utorrent: http://utorrent.com.
2. Do the required settings and Select the port.
3. Now you need a torrent file which you can get from various sites like mininova.org, isohunt.com or other.
4. Download the torrent.
5. Double click the file.
6. Select the files you want to download.
7. Let the download finish. You can pause the downloads too.
8. Let the download finish and enjoy.
